For today’s staff feature, meet Sara Darland, our Intake and Care Coordinator at the Common Ground Recovery House in Winona. Sara has been with Common Ground for just over 2 years.

Sara received her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Columbia College. Prior to working at Common Ground, she worked in management for 8 years and also holds an Associate’s Degree in Human Services. Sara is also a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

We sat down with Sara to learn more about her work and passion for the field:

Why are you passionate about the field of treatment and recovery?

“I have experienced addiction in my own family and friend group so I feel like I fell into this field because of the passion I have had from growing up surrounded by it. It took me a long time to figure out my purpose in life, but knowing I can be a part of someone reconnecting with family and finding themselves is such a gift to me.”

What’s your favorite thing about Common Ground?

“I love seeing the pride and passion in my co-workers daily, there is such a family dynamic that it is comforting to know we are accepted and understood.”

What advice would you give to someone struggling with addiction today?

“It is possible, even when it may seem impossible. There is hope, have faith and take one small step every day.”

What are your hobbies?

“When I’m not working, I just enjoy spending time with my family, fur babies and friends.”

Favorite words of wisdom?

“You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequences of your choice.”
